Coolest Campsite Challenge
Last year we had our first ever campsite challenge, and we are excited about round 2 this year.
There is no registration required, and the opportunity to win great prizes is available to all campers!!
We're upping the ante this year by adding some more requirements to your campsite. The sites will be judged on not only creativity, originality and quality; but also sustainability and a display of community. That means you should be making an effort to be clean, environmentally friendly, be aware of your neighbors, and just awesome. There's a lot of ways you can go with those, we can't wait to see what campers come up with.
COOLEST CAMPSITE CHALLENGE RULES
1. The site must have a particular theme (Please keep PG Rated, families will be camping in the campgrounds).
Remember, BE ORIGINAL!!!
2. Please post your campsite name for judging purposes (For example, if your theme is paradise, a name could be "Tropic Blues")
There will be 3 judges roaming the grounds throughout the festival, and the winners will be announced Sunday after the Gospel Hour.
GRAND PRIZES
1st Place Winner - Two 3-Day passes to the 2009 Telluride Blues & Brews Festival

Thinking Green
You probably noticed if you have bought a ticket online that you had the option to purchase a "Be Green Ticket." For the nominal price of $2.50, Green Mountain Energy Company will provide 250kWh of renewable energy on your behalf. Each ticket will off-set 341 lbs of carbon dioxide, about the equivalent of not driving your car for 379 miles.
Blues and Brews is 100% carbon neutral this year! We are proud to be a part of Eco-Tunes, a comprehensive program for carbon neutral music tours and events created by Green Mountain Energy and Sustainable Waves. We are offsetting the carbon dioxide emissions created by the festival's generators and electricity usage as well as our staff's air travel and vehicle based emissions for the event. This year we will be offsetting 26 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, a harmful gas that is the leading cause of global warming. To put this in perspective, this is like not driving your car over 63,600 miles or the annual carbon absorption of more than 3,440 trees.
When you arrive in Town Park, take notice of the different disposal options available to you. We will have volunteers to help direct trash flow, with dispensers available for recycling, compost and trash. The six stations will be lit by solar power at night, so there's no excuse for not minimizing our waste this year!
All of our vendors are required to use compostable wares, meaning these products won't wait around in landfills for years on end. All the cups, plates and utensils are made from corn and sugar cane, so they are all biocompostable and won't stick around. Be aware when you are throwing your food products out, they should go in the compost piles rather than trash!
There will be no plastic bags at Blues and Brews this year. If you think you may need one for your campsite or to bag your trash, please reuse one from home. Reusethisbag.com lists some reasons why the switch to reusable bags is so important for our environment. The company is also creating some fantastic Blues and Brews tote bags, featuring all 16 of the past festival posters. Keep your eyes out for the unique, and environmentally friendly, bags.
We appreciate all your help in creating a green festival. Please be aware of the foot print you leave, we want to keep Telluride beautiful for many Blues and Brews to come!

Telluride Blues & Brews Festival Awarded for Keeping the Blues Alive
The Telluride Blues & Brews Festival will be honored with The Blues Foundation's 2009 Keeping the Blues Alive (KBA) Award on, Saturday, February 7, 2009 in Memphis Tennessee. The KBA ceremony will be held in conjunction with the 25th International Blues Challenge (IBC) weekend of events that will feature the semifinals and finals of the world’s largest gathering of Blues bands, as well as seminars, presentations, and receptions for Blues societies, fans and professionals.
The Keeping the Blues Alive Awards recognize the significant contributions to Blues music made by the people behind the scenes. Each is selected on the basis of merit by a select panel of Blues professionals. KBA Chairman Art Tipaldi notes with respect to this year’s recipients, “As is often the case, this year the committee recognized some individuals that have long-deserved to be honored as well as identifying others who have made a very impressive mark on Blues music in a relatively short period. Once again, the honorees cover the United States map. In addition, two Italian organizations were selected for their commitment to the Blues genre in their country.”
Celebrating 15 years this past September, Telluride Blues & Brews has become one of the hottest Blues festivals in America. Though the primary focus is Blues, soul, gospel, rock with a touch of jam bands make to the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival noteworthy enough to be listed in the best selling book, 1,000 Places to See in the USA and Canada Before You Die. B.B. King was quoted saying, “Out of the 90 different countries I’ve been to, I’ve never seen anything more beautiful than what you have here.” With the Rocky Mountains as the stage backdrop, the King of the Blues is absolutely right.
